Running a professional, business or niche focused blog comes with expectations - these are 3 of many points to consider when running a blog for business and even if you’re doing it as a hobby.
It’s fairly easy to get into bag blogging habits - one of the worst habits is to ignore your “About Page” - this page is extremely important because it lets your readers know who you are and helps them to establish some sort of online relationship with you as the author of the blog. It helps them to understand your vision for the blog, and tells them a bit about who you are as a person and as an expert or authority within a particular field or niche. Believe it or not, most folks check out the about page and when they find the generic page provided by wordpress you can kiss them goodbye, so to speak.
Use your about page to tell your readers who you are and why you are qualified to write a blog within your particular niche market - it helps your readers to understand why they should believe or support what you are saying. Once they become supporters, they will return to your blog.
Have you claimed your blog on technorati? when you claim your blog on this service you’re registering the site as yours. It can help to improve your traffic. It takes a little while for new blogs to get a decent amount of traffic and you want to attack every possible avenue within your reach to ensure you’re getting a decent amount of readers.
It’s easy to set up a blog on wordpress.com or blogger.com but you have to remember that although there is no difference on incoming traffic or ranking - hosting your blog on your own hosting account establishes credibility as a professional or authority within your market. When running your blog on these hosted services you have to remember that those companies are ultimately in control of your blog and if you break their terms you run the risk of losing your blog and content with or without notice.

I just had to post this for you guys to enjoy, it’s a cartoon based on guy’s ignorance of twitter and peer pressure to tweet his worries away.
This cartoon is from “Super News” they’ve created an animated sketch comedy which airs on Current_tv. I know some folks have already seen this but for those that have not, i know you will enjoy this and get some quick laughs..

Twitter, Twitter, Twitter. “I wish I could just figure out who just just un-followed me”
Haven’t you wondered that before? I know I have and now there is a service that let’s us tweeters know who got up and left us hanging on the Twitters follower vine. I started wondering a bit more about this type of notification after hearing about this new service that pays you to tweet advertisements. It’s called “Sponsored Tweets” .
If you’ve never heard of them you can read about them here:
Real Money in Twitter for you? You gotta read this.
Sponsored Tweets seems like a great opportunity for folks that enjoy the idea of making money online but these very tweeters are concerned with folks un-following them because their followers may not be okay with adver-tweets. This is why you need this service called “Qwitter”.
Qwitter is a service that e-mails you when someone stops following you on Twitter, they also let you know what was the last tweet the un-follower saw before they let themselves out of your follower list.
This is the format of the notification message they send you:
Ruben Ricart (@rricart) stopped following you on Twitter after you posted this tweet:
What’s the difference between Arial and Helvetica?
I don’t know what you’re thinking but I wish this would of been around during my college days when I would log in to my Myspace account only find that the number of friends had decreased. You have no idea how the curiosity of figuring out who left my friends list would overcome me. (don’t judge me, I was younger and you know you wondered too…lol)
Why I’m using Qwitter?
Since I blog for business, it’s important to retain my followers.
After all Twitter is a source for traffic and losing one follower is just as bad as an e-mail subscriber unsubscribing from my list. If I know who un-followed it gives me an opportunity of reaching out to that tweeter and asking what moved them to un-follow me.
This information may help me to address whatever issue led this tweep to leave while allowing me the opportunity to prevent future tweeps from leaving. It may even give me a chance to get that qwitter back on my follower list.
Why you should be using Qwitter?
If you blog for business then I have already given you an idea or one reason as to why you should consider Qwitter.
If you tweet for fun, or for the heck of it then you can figure out who you pissed off and why they left or it may just serve to feed your own curiosity as to why your followers number just decreased.
Enjoy….

Thought this was Hillarious and wanted to share this with all of you…lol
What’s your tweet peeve?
When using twitter have you found yourself trying to figure out what words you can eliminate from your tweet so you can meet the 140 character limit? I know i have.
I normally go back and read the whole tweet to see what words I can abbreviate, what words to eliminate, does my tweet make sense after eliminating them? among a few other tweet habits.
If you’ve done this then your not alone. I asked all of my friends offline if they use twitter and when they said yes I asked them if they were guilty of this habit and as I expected they’ve all pleaded guilty.
This peeve led me to type the following into Google “140 characters” and I found this nifty little service called 140it that does the job of shortening your tweets for you so that they meet the character limit.
Here is a sample tweet I started with that was over the limit by 11 characters.
what happens when you write over the maximum limit that twitter allots to each tweet - I hear its140 characters, don’t you hate shortening your tweets.
and this is the output of the new tweet that was shortened by this service…
what happens when u write over maximum limit that twitter allots 2 each tweet - I hear its140 characters, don’t u hate shortening your tweets.
Thought it was a cool little service for those of you that cant always express yourselves in 140 characters…and are typically over by a few….check them out and use this service whenever you want to save yourself some editing time.
Here is a little video of how “140it“ works..

Given that Google recently closed their “Google Notebook” chapter,Yahoo is seemingly taking advantage of this new found opportunity - most folks would agree that Yahoo is a bit behind when comparing them to what some would say is the greatest search engine in the world but their new feature and concept is getting pretty good reviews.
They officially launched their “test” or beta version today and although it seems a bit like Google Notebook it has somewhat of a different and interesting approach in regards to how we organize our web research. If we are using Yahoo, then this new feature known as SearchPad will automatically make note of the types of sites and links that you are often clicking on - so for instance; for us bloggers if our niche relates to blogging tips and we use Yahoo to research our market then this “Yahoo SearchPad” feature will pop up and you will notice a “Take Notes” option appear right in the search pages.
After granting Yahoo permission to add your research to “SearchPad”; you will notice that most of the research notes have already been added to your pad - this feature is what is known as “Attention Data” Yahoo pays attention to your research by taking notes of the links you follow and based on the frequency of that particular topic it will automatically organize them for you.
It gets even better, not only will they automatically add notes based on your research but you also have the option to manually insert your own notes. If by chance you forget to add the source of the data on your notes, not to worry, Yahoo Search Pad will browse the web and figures out where the content came from.
It’s interesting to see how Yahoo has come up with this concept and I feel that this will be a booming success - it’s what Google Notebook should have been. Yahoo went out to the market and actually watched how folks searched the web - they are releasing search pad to a limited number of users for testing purposes and to determine how it plays out in the “Real World” - the results of this research will help yahoo to determine what needs to improve for the final roll out.
It will probably be a while before it’s available to all users, but this is one concept and product that I will be watching closely as it may have a positive and influential impact on niche research - at the end of the day it saves time, and it makes it easier for us to conduct our research.
The Yahoo vs. Google war is not yet over, this is just a beginning so don’t go on and think that it’s over for Google - this is a strategic move by a very smart company and if they continue doing things like these then its only a matter of time before the balance tilts on yahoo’s favor.
Are you using Yahoo Search Pad?
What do you think of it? and How do you feel about this concept?

Haven’t you always heard that running a blog contest is one of the easiest and most effective ways to grow your subscribers and drive traffic to your blog ?
If you haven’t, then the key question is - where have you been?
I always heard that you should always duplicate the behavior of those that have already succeeded before you and if you notice the trend most of the successful bloggers are running blog contest in which they are giving away these interesting, cool looking and effective devices known as Flip Mino HD’s and on average the requirements to participate have been pretty simple - what do you have to lose by participating?
The common trend has been using Twitter to spread the word, but Ryan McLean of “Smarter Wealth” is running his a bit different - all he requires is that you sign up to his newsletter, and post a short article with a minimum of 100 words.
I assume that he’s running thing this way to not only get the word out there but also to gain some “SEO Link Juice” - I personally feel that when someone is giving away a prize that’s worth over $200USD then you have to assume they have a commitment to their online business.
To make it even easier for those folks that don’t have time to write - he has written up a short article that you can copy and paste and for your convenience I am sharing that with you as well.
Good Luck & Thanks for Running the Contest Ryan!
Ryan McLean from Smarter Wealth is giving away a brand new Flip Mino HD to one lucky reader. This will be the easiest Flip Mino HD to win because barely anyone is going to enter meaning more chances that you can win.
